A Call to Worship
Christmas 1C 2009
Psalm 148

The heavens and space are proclaiming
the glories of our God, all singing their praises.
The suns and moons, stars and planets
all join in the chorus of praise to God.

The earth and its creatures are proclaiming
the glories of our God, all singing their praises.
All creation, past, present and future sing songs
of never-ending praise to our Creating God.

People of all ages and conditions are proclaiming
the glories of our God, all singing their praises.
God’s glory is above and beyond all things,
and all God’s creation responds with joy!
We join in worship with a loud ‘Hallelujah’! Amen.

Prayers of Praise and ExaltationB
Christmas 1C 2009
Psalm 148

Praise the Lord!
We all say again - Praise the Lord!

With prayers of praise and in the exaltation of God,
the heavens begin the chorus of praise and celebration,
as the heavenly spheres circle in their dance of praise;
and the earth and all its creatures respond to sing:
‘Amen! Praise the Lord!’

With prayers of praise and in the exaltation of God,
we worship the Lord at whose commands all things
came into being, in their great and glorious diversity;
and the earth and all its creatures respond to sing:
‘Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!’

With prayers of praise and in the exaltation of God,
the weather and climates in their many forms
celebrate the wonders of our Creating God;
and the earth and all its creatures respond to sing:
‘The Lord is King! Praise the Lord!’ Amen.

With prayers of praise and in the exaltation of God,
all the angels and saints in God’s realm of glory
worship and bow down before the Lord of all creation;
and the earth and all its peoples respond to sing:
‘Glory to God in the highest heaven! Praise the Lord!’

A Personal Meditation
Christmas 1C 2009
Psalm 148

To God, the Holy One, God the Lord of Creation,
God who day by day is still creating;
I bring my songs of praise, my prayers of thanks,
and my joyful dances of celebration
as my personal response the wonders of my God.

Creative pause: I give thanks to God.

The wonders of the universe: space, and the heavens,
the stars and planets, the rain-filled clouds,
all under the command and control of God,
all sing their praises to God – and I join in.
The wonders of the angelic hosts, the cherubim
and seraphim, and all the glorious saints in light:
all sing their praises to God – and I join in.

Creative pause: I give thanks to God.

The wonders of the earth: the waters and the skies,
all under the command and control of God:
all sing their praises to God – and I join in.
All the wonders of the earth that swim and fly,
walk and run, slide and glide, creep and crawl, hop and jump:
the beasts, birds, water creatures, reptiles and insects,
all under the command and control of God:
all sing their praises to God – and I join in.

Creative pause: I give thanks to God.

The wonders of the earth: storm and sunshine,
hail and winds, light and dark, heat and cold,
all under the command and control of God:
all sing their praises to God – and I join in.
The wonders of the earth, trees, flowers, fruits and grains,
all under the command and control of God:
all sing their praises to God – and I join in.

Creative pause: I give thanks to God.
